Job Description: Hentzen Coatings, Inc. is a growth oriented producer of powder coatings who recently expanded operations in Clearwater, Florida. We now have an opportunity for an experienced Development Chemist to assist us with continuing our growth.

DEVELOPMENT CHEMIST

First Shift 7am – 3:30pm (M-F)

 

The Development Chemist is responsible for the formulation, research and development of new products, improvement of existing products and color matching. This position also supervises the QC Lab.

 

DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Formulate coating systems with available advanced technologies for customers future needs
  • Support rapid turnaround
  • Conduct color matching
  • Reduce or rework distressed products on hand to reduce inventory
  • Provide technical assistance to customers
  • Supervise the activities of the QC Lab Techncian(s)
  • Provide assistance to production and QC personnel on new and existing coatings in production
  • Visit customers up to 15% of time
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Be aware of current coating technology/trend by reading trade journal and attending symposium and trade shows

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education level strongly preferred: Bachelor of Science degree with chemistry or polymer chemistry training
  • 1-3 years coatings lab experience including color matching
  • Excellent math, computer and communication (both oral and written) skills
  • Ability to receive and provide instructions in a positive manner
  • Experience with laboratory testing equipment
  • A team player

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds while performing duties relating to the job and may rarely have to lift/move up to 50 lbs.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee may be occasionally exposed to fumes and/or airborne particles in the lab area. The employee is occasionally exposed to hazardous materials. Personal Protection Equipment is required during various processes in the lab area.

Required Skills: -Bachelor of Science degree with chemistry or polymer chemistry
Candidate Must Have: Experience in powder coatings and supervisory skills.
